Stress Management Ideas

If you are constantly stressed, depressed or anxious then the following article may well be of benefit. I believe that I am one of the biggest stress-heads in the country but have recently, with the help and advice of a friend, managed to lower and deal with most of my anxieties.

We were on a night on when he (Ian) started going on about the fact that he thought I could do with a mini holiday. He stated that in his opinion there was far too much stress and worry in my life and that I worked too hard and that I worked far too many hours in an average week. A bit of sun and a few beers could do me a power of good he explained. It could be a way of taking my mind off my work SEO powersuite reviews company and help me to relax.

After having a little think I decided that Ian’s idea was a good one. It was certainly worth a go in any case. I asked Ian if he would like to join me on this break, to which he agreed. A sucker for punishment or what! Ian was a very positive person despite having a stuttering problem; he was also some what of a businessman and made a good living out of offering people one-way links.

We decided to go to Devon which is situated on the South-West coast of England. This is an area that I love as it is such a relaxed place to be, especially compared to the busy city where I live.

We had probably more alcohol than what many people would recommend and ate some great food. The weather was superb which helped in the recovery from the previous nights abuses. I even thought about possibly moving to Devon in the future as this could help me to become more relaxed. This for various reasons is something that is out of the question at the current time.

If you are constantly under pressure or in a stressed out state, I would advice a similar course of action. Give yourself a break to have some fun and to give your body a chance to de-stress.

How To Become Stress Free

I had basically had enough of constantly being depressed, about being in fear of the future and needed to learn about how to control my depression.

From gaining various solutions for my depression I was then able to cope with whatever life would have to throw at me. There will of course be times when I do not feel that happy or confident but this is the time when I am able to fall back on my new techniques.

I am a very quiet person and I like to keep myself to myself. Some would say that I border on being a loner, which I would quite agree with. I have been hurt on numerous occasions at the hands of various people; it has been to such an extent that I am now happier when I am on my own. I am not a peoples person. Work has often been a source of stress; I have had various roles, working for an SEO company, a flyer printing company and working part time at a PGD clinic.

I also like to keep my problems to myself. This was my biggest failure, what I needed to do was to talk through my problems and fears with somebody else, a member of my family for example.

This was not easy for me to do and it took a great deal of courage to talk to anybody about the areas of my life which made me feel depressed. I did however go down this route and it did have a positive effect. To talk about my problems was like taking a weight off my shoulders.

It was my dad who I confided in. He listened and then came back with some superb advice and a couple of suggestions of what I could do.

This is my second piece of advice. We need to spend less time worrying and more time seeking solutions to our problems. We need to ask ourselves why we are depressed and what can help us to remedy our issues.

The Best Ways To Reduce Stress

There have been a number of issues in my own life which have caused me to lose confidence, become stressed and even depressed. These include:

A lack of true friends

I have had problems with debt

A stuttering speech impediment

A bald patch

I have had problems controlling my weight

I was often paranoid about what other people thought of me

These issues have caused me many sleepless nights. There were various periods when I could not actually fall asleep due to the numerous problems running through my mind. This was due to constantly worrying and thinking about my problems.

It was then that I decided that enough was enough – I could no longer continue to live life in this way. I started by reading books about the best ways to reduce stress and about how to gain in confidence. After a long time, I believed that I had some tools and techniques which would help me.

Stress management techniques

Stop thinking so much

I am what people call a thinker. I have to admit that in the past I have thought far too much about various things/problems. This would not be a problem if I was thinking in a positive way but of course I was a negative thinker.

One way that I found helped me to reduce the amount that I worried and the amount that I thought about various things was by listening to music. Whenever I hit a negative thought process, I would play this music. This could be when I am in the car, when I am in the house and even when I am in bed.

The music helps to take my mind off the issues that I was stressing about.

Quit smoking and start exercising instead

Many people decide to smoke a cigarette when they are stressed. I believe that a far healthier and cheaper option is to exercise.

I will do a few weights and a few press ups which helps me to let off some steam. I am even able to battle against my phobias and various anxieties when listening to my music.

Learning to relax

Relaxation was something I found very hard to do; especially due to having a very busy career as an SEO consultant.

I have now started various forms of alternative therapy such as tai chi, meditation and reflexology. These are superb at helping people to relax and also help to reduce levels of stress.

Stress Is Really Not Cool…

Stress is when your peace of mind is interrupted and your emotions are worked up. You can feel stress in your home, work or your child can feel stress at school. If not handled properly, it can mess with our minds and our health.

Stress feels like you are carrying a large burden on your shoulders. You have a lot of responsibilities that seem like it all falls toward you and no one else. You have feelings of anxiety and frustration.  Stress can contribute to health issues like gum disease.

There are times when you will get angry because so much has come upon you and it seems to be overwhelming. You feel overpowered to do anything so it’s easy for you to get into worrying about things that you can’t control.

It doesn’t have to be big things that will cause stress. It could be some of the smallest things that can set you off and make you tense.

There are different things and events that can cause you to be stressed. What may cause stress for one person may not be the same for someone else. It’s basically different strokes for different folks when it comes to stress.

Stress can be physical, internal, emotional and external. They can be caused by a loss you’ve experienced, overworking yourself, sickness, arguments and other problems that you face.

You can also experience stress from office politics. This is not something that you should get involved in. It is not good for you mentally, especially if you’re dealing with other problems. Office politics can be very brutal and you have to know how to deal with it. The last thing you want to do is to bring it home with you.

One of the worst things you can do is to turn to drugs or alcohol to relieve stress. You will be on a never ending loop and things can go further south from there. If you do develop that gum disease we talked about, try the hydrofloss or therabreath mouthwash for better oral hygiene.  So, therefore it is extremely important to watch over your dental health during times of stress. This would include pregnancy when the risk of getting gum disease rises.

Getting rid of stress is important for many aspects of your life.  Stress levels vary, but if you learn could stress management techniques, you might live a happier, longer and more fulfilling life.

The Best Way To Cope With Stress

December 28, 2009 by admin

I have always struggled to live a stress-free life. I worry about almost every aspect of life and living this way has caused me a lot of problems including various bouts of ill health from time to time. I needed to find a way of coping with and reducing the amount of stress in my life and in this article I write about how I have managed to achieve this.

So what do I stress about? Well I suppose it is anything and everything. Women and my relationships with them; my financial position – having a lack of money and worrying about how I am going to be able to pay the bills etc. I also have anxiety over my career and my personal friendships. For whatever reason I also used to worry about what other people thought of me.

I am the kind of person who is classed as a thinker. I will be the first to admit that I over-think at times; some people would go as far as to call me a stress-head – others, no doubt, see me as some sort of freak. This thinking is very much in a negative manner and is a cycle which I have found hard to break.

About a year ago I was invited to appear on a national radio show to talk about my occupation which is web promotion and offering stuttering treatment, and also strangely enough helping an organisation to do with becoming a foster carer. I was due to talk live on this radio program at around 2pm. All morning as was my way of course, I was thinking and worrying about how I would come across to other people. I was afraid that I would make a fool of myself and would sound like a bit of an idiot. I also, for whatever reason, started to stress about whether I would be able to remember, under the amount of pressure that I was likely be under, the important aspects of my occupation which people would be interested in.

I was getting myself into a bit of a state and even thought about phoning up to cancel the interview. I then called up a good friend of mine who has always provided me with sound advice. I explained about the radio show and about my fears. He stated that I needed to relax and to even look forward to the experience. It would, he continued, be a chance to promote my own services and therefore was something to be grateful for.

He advised me that what I needed to do was to keep myself busy. If I am very busy, I would not have any time to think in my usual negative way. He stated that he believed that I needed to find things that would occupy my mind. He thought that I was spending the majority of the time stressing about this and that. If however I had a much busier life then I would not have so much time to think in this manner.

This is something I had realised a few years before but had in truth not acted on. I thought about what my friend had said and then decided to get stuck into some much needed gardening. I am happy to let you know that the radio interview went fine.

Medicating Your Anxiety

December 25, 2009 by admin

An intense panic attack is usually followed by the administration of anti-anxiety medication to prevent other similar episodes. However, tranquilizers don’t offer a cure for the health problem and they also have the disadvantage of causing all sorts of side effects. Here are some of the unpleasant and sometimes paradoxical adverse reactions related with the administration of anti-anxiety medication in general. While the major benefit from their use is the state of calm and relaxation, sometimes drugs can relax you to the extent that you feel drowsy all the time.

Since anti-anxiety medication blocks the secretion or the release of certain chemicals at the level of the central nervous system, this may often result in a poor coordination, lack of energy and slow reflexes. Some people also complain about dizziness, confusion, disorientation and impaired thinking, not to mention the impossibility to operate machines and drive. The extensive use of anti-anxiety medication can also cause depression with or without suicidal feelings. Drugs do eliminate the anxiety discomfort, but they also make it impossible for the sufferer to experience pain or pleasure thus affecting the quality of life in very many ways.  Seattle Bellevue Renton HCG Diet & Weight Loss.

Some reactions to anti-anxiety medication are truly paradoxical. For instance, the use of tranquilizers aims at inducing relaxation and calm, but an increase of the irritability and agitation level has sometimes been signaled out. Plus, rage, hostility and mania have been noticed in some cases. The severest forms of side effects include hallucinations and aggressive behaviors, which, although rare, remain very dangerous. More than half of the paradoxical reactions to anti-anxiety drugs are usually encountered with the elderly and children, as well as with people that suffer from some developmental disabilities.  Seattle Bellevue Renton HCG Diet & Weight Loss.

Consequently, choosing the treatment well and complementing it with some other form of therapy represent essential stages for the patient’s full recovery, and thus should be considered as priorities for any treatment program or approach. Anti-anxiety medication only reduces or stops the symptoms without bringing an improvement to  the health condition in any way. The factor or the problem that generates the panic attacks remains lurking at the back of the mind, somehow camouflaged, and once the medical treatment is discontinued, anxiety will be back all over again. Therefore, all the treatment efforts should be directed towards proper diagnosis and identification of the causes behind the disorder.  Seattle HCG Diet & Weight Loss.

Stress Relief Advice

December 17, 2009 by admin

In this article I write about how we need to chill out, relax and to live a stress-free life. For many years I did not live life this way and found myself constantly worrying about what other people thought of me.

I lived life like this for quite a long time and was basically being a fool as I was often depressed. This was due to the fact that I had a stutter and despite attending stammering treatments on a regular basis I was unable to find a solution. Years later I did manage to stop stammering, after a lot of hard work and with the help of a seventy minute self-help DVD.

In my quest to improve my life I started to read literature about stress management, how to eradicate depression as well as how to gain in confidence. I was now twenty-two years of age and had achieved very little in life up to this point. I happened to come accross the letters page of one particular magazine and started to read a letter which had been written by an elderly lady. It was quite a funny letter and she wrote about how she loved being old. She continued by stating that she now gets out of bed at a time which suits her and even stays in bed for the whole day on occasions. She really does not worry about what any one thinks of her anymore. She no longer attends any type of function or get together unless she really wants to and can quite happily turn down social invites without the slightest feeling of guilt. She wrote that for the first time in her life she does not care at all what people think of her and lives life doing exactly what she wants to do.

I thought about what she had written and realised that I also felt trapped. I did not want to wait until I was in my seventies to be set free, I wanted freedom now. I had to change my attitude to life and I decided to stop trying so hard.

I believe that I am a good human being; I try to do right by the people that I meet; I am honest and caring and try to live life in the right way. I actually for the first time in my life, quite like myself, therefore if other people choose not to, that is fine by me.

My new found positive attitude has helped me in many different ways including in my business life where I sell front doors. I am now a fully contented and happy person and it is in part down to reading that old woman’s inspirational letter.

Information And Advice About Meditation

December 7, 2009 by admin

Stress affects people in different ways. I personally feel very tired and lethargic during these periods and start to worry about things, like a future event.

Other people suffer from panic attacks, become very shaky and nervous, feel sick in the stomach, become sad and can begin to think in a very negative way.

Most of the conditions I have described above are actually a mental and not so much of a physical problem. This is why I believe meditation to be an excellent form of stress relief or stress management.

I know all about the benefits of meditation and stress. Stuttering ruined my early life and caused me to lose a lot of my self-confidence. I worked hard to stop stammering and was eventually rewarded with fluency at the age of 21.

Stress and worry also affected my work life within the composite door company where I held quite a senior position. At time I would worry far too much about the trivialities of work.

The main benefits of meditation:

It can lower your heart rate

It relaxes your breathing and can even make it slower

It can lower blood pressure

It can increase your self-esteem by making you think in a more positive way

Helps you to think in a more logical and clear way

Helps you to reduce stress

Types of meditation:

Walking meditation

Mandala meditation

Yoga meditation

Sitting meditation

Prayer meditation

Visualisation meditation

I personally prefer the sitting meditation. I try to make time around three of four times a day when I will sit down to meditate. At the start I was quite unsure as to the whole aspect of meditation and whether it would prove to be beneficial. I found it difficult at this stage to get myself into the zone. With practice and realising that I needed this to work for me, I managed to get enough concentration and focus to see the full benefits.

A lot of the people in my circle of friends think that I am a bit mad, including my best friends Dave and Pete who work in the business cost reduction specialist sector. They can not believe that I actually just sit there and think. Meditation has had such a positive effect on my life and continues to do so, therefore my friends can mock as much as they like. I actually believe that some of them should try it themselves but they always laugh at the suggestion.

Stress Management Tips For Kids

Children who have nightmares

There are many reasons why children can start to have nightmares. I have two children, both of whom at various stages of their lives wake up crying and upset.

My young son started to have nightmares after watching the film Lord Of The Rings. He really enjoyed watching the film and wanted to watch it on a regular basis and would even re-inact the battles. The film itself is quite long and he would normally be watching it by himself as his mother and I would be busy doing other things.

I thought about why he may have started to have these type of dreams and believed it was due to this film. I then made a point of watching it with him and kept on reassuring him that the people have not actually died and that they were only acting. Even though it was not particularly humorous I made sure that I laughed when there were the more violent scenes and would state something like “as if that is realistic”.

Children who stress

My daughter at one point started to stress because she was not in any of the top groups in the different subjects she was taking at school. She felt like she was a failure and that we would not be proud of her. I advised her that we knew she was giving it her all at school and that as long as she continued to try her best that we would always be proud of her. But it is a bit like where I work at a company selling affordable composite doors, we can not all be the chairman After all not every child can be in these top sets.

She did have a real issue to stress about – stuttering. For whatever reason she developed the speech impediment when she was a young child and as you may well imagine it had a negative affect on her self-esteem. I searched high and low for ways to help her to stop stuttering and I am pleased to report that she has now managed to achieve fluency. She is now helping people by showing them how to become a foster carer.

I am confident that with the right motivation that other people will also be able to learn how to achieve fluency.

Understanding a Child’s Worries and Anxieties

November 16, 2009 by admin

As a parent it is important that we understand what potential problems our child has. I think that we would all agree that the majority of children have a certain amount of fears and anxieties. In this article, I write about the types of fears that this might be and about how we can help our children to cope and to get through life in the best possible and stress-free way.

I am by now a child social worker and what I write within this article is just my own personal opinion. I actually work within the stammering therapy industry; I am also involved with a DVD authoring company and with a group of cost reduction consultants.

Many children are able to pick up on what their parents are worrying about. They may hear arguments about money and can then start to worry themselves about the financial situation their family may be in. I am a parent myself and try where possible to only discuss serious issues with my partner when the children are out or are asleep. I am quick to re-assure my own child if I am of the opinion that he has overheard a conversation that in truth I would have preferred he had not listened to.

Children may also worry that their parents may break up and that they will end up living apart. They will no doubt hear that this has happened to their friends and may wonder and stress about how their lives would change if this happened to them.

My children have told me that they worry and that they fear that one of their parents may die in the near future. It is quite difficult to explain to them that this is unlikely to happen as it obviously could. I try and laugh it off which may not be the best policy, by stating that I am still very young and that I have no plans to leave this planet in the near future. I explain to them the age that the average male will live to in our country and that normally, I hope, makes them feel better.

Another form of stress and anxiety for many children, is of course, attending school. Will they be able to comprehend all of the work that they are given? Will they be able to obtain a good examination mark and a good report? Will they be able to make their parents proud of them? I have told my own children not to worry about these issues and to just try their best.

Socialising and meeting friends can also bring its own tensions. Children make and break friends at regular intervals, especially during the early teenage years. When friends fall out this can be a very stressful time for any child. When this happens to my children, I make a point of saying that it has been the fourth time in a month that you and Amy as an example, have had a falling out. Your sure to make friends again in the near future.

As children get a bit older there is then the challenge of meeting a member of the opposite sex. We all know the problems and strains that this can bring. At this time I think it is just a matter of being there for your children and getting them through these difficult years the best and easiest way possible.
