Stuttering And Stammering Speech Therapy Courses
Over the last few years the popularity of specialised communication courses for stuttering has increased in a big way. The courses are normally held over a five-day period however there are also a two and three day option available. The courses themselves are run by a person who knows all about the subject of stammering and stuttering due to the fact that he had this type of speech impediment for eighteen years of his life before managing to achieve fluency when he was aged twenty-two.
These “stuttering courses” are held in the UK, in the second largest city of Birmingham. The How to Stop Stuttering Centre has been offering these speech courses since 1996 and Steve Hill who runs them has regularly been featured within the media during that time including a front page appearance on the much respected Daily Telegraph.
Steve has also produced a number of self-help products for the people who are not able to attend a stuttering speech course in England. These include a stuttering therapy audio book, a stuttering therapy DVD and a stuttering therapy e-book.
Steve has recently developed the “stuttering treatments via Skype”. Here people are able to receive therapy whilst watching Steve Hill on their computer screens. This abilty to watch the speech coach describe and demonstrate the techniques is of great benefit in speech pathology.
So what about the feedback for such a course? Well thus far the feedback has been extremely positive hence why there is such a demand for these types of specialist stuttering therapy courses.
A two day weekend speech course has recently been added to the list of therapy options that are available.
To achieve fluency I realised that I needed to start thinking in a much more positive manner; out went the negativity and in came a whole new “I can do it” approach. This really is the only way to go and I only regret that I did not realise this a whole lot earlier.
How To Think In A Positive Manner

We all face problems or hurdles as we travel along the road of life, this article gives my viewpoint on how to deal with these issues. I have personally taken inspiration from my favourite football team, Birmingham City. They have a famous song which their supporters regularly sing, it is called, keep right on to the end of the road.
I have often been amazed by the passion and the buzz that I get when going to watch them, and also the passion of the rest of the crowd. During one season, these supporters without knowing it, taught me a huge lesson. The season in question had been a very poor one for Birmingham and it resulted in the team being relegated to the then second division (the leagues have been reformed since then and this division is now known as the first division). This was the lowest point the club had ever reached.
There was only one more match of the season remaining which would be at home and our team had already been consigned to relegation. At most clubs the fans would no doubt give the players some stick and would make it an uncomfortable afternoon for them. Not so at Birmingham, the fans were as passionate as ever and continued to support and cheer them on. At one point a leaflet was sent round the Birmingham supporters which had been produced by the supporters club members. It stated on this leaflet that despite the club reaching its lowest point, that they wanted as many fans as possible to travel to the last match of the season, which would be in London. The fans wanted to ensure that the club were fully aware that we were right behind them and that we would not desert them in their hour of need. I went to that match as did around six thousand other Birmingham fans. One song was sang throughout the whole match, keep right on to the end of the road. It was an amazing experience for me and one that I will never forget. The team still lost but that did not matter one bit~As many pundits predicted Birmingham ended up losing the match but the supporters did not really care}~As many pundits predicted Birmingham ended up losing the match but the supporters did not really care}.
Later I thought about what had happened. I realised that when I felt a bit depressed, I needed to think of that day and to quickly pick myself up. I was basically a person who would always think negatively about things and I now realised that had to start thinking much more positively. This is not easy however but is something that I try hard to do~I am not trying to suggest that this is easy however I do try my best to do it}. I had a negative attitude in part due to the fact that I had a speech impediment. With this new found attitude I eventually found a way of stuttering and I have now been fluent for the last fourteen years.
I have also gained success in my business life selling external doors for a local composite door company. It is amazing what a good approach can have on the sales of these affordable front doors. I also work with a group of experts who advise on becoming a foster carer.
My belief is that positive people have positive and happy lives. This is what I want and the above example has helped me to get back onto my feet many times.
How To Attain Your Targets

About four years ago I discovered the many benefits of setting targets and goals. I thought about what I wanted to be and which course I wanted my life to take. I wrote out three different lists of my aims for the future.
The first list included what I wanted to achieve within the next twelve months. The second list contained what I wanted to achieve within five years and the third list was my lifetime goals.
One of my goals was to do with my composite front doors business. I wanted to ensure that the world would get to know about the fact that I offer affordable composite doors.
I had read that it of benefit to write any goals or targets down to ensure that one can keep focused.
Invest time and money to reach your goals
I now had a determination to succeed and was willing to work hard to achieve my goals. I was very much aware that I would have to work very hard to achieve anything in life. One of my aims was to overcome stuttering. To do this I had to learn the art of relaxation, I have always been very hard on myself and had spent most of my life worrying about things that may happen in the future. I began to become more care-free and even started to treat myself every so often. I went to see a refloxologist and a few weeks later I went to see an aromatherapist. The stutter which had affected my life since I had been a young child was eventually eradicated but only after a lot of hard work.
Avoid negative people
There are people out there who try to bring me down. They attempt to do this by off the cuff comments they make or just by the way they seem to look down on me. They look at me as If I am worthless and some kind of loser. These type of people have caused me many sleepless nights and have had a negative affect on my self-confidence.
Life is now good and my business career has now taken off and I am now working with a company who offer a cost reduction strategy which I have to say is very enjoyable.
I hope that you have found this article interesting and of benefit.
Important Life Coaching Advice
I have just returned from my twelve year old step-daughters parents evening. It was an interesting hour and I believe my daughter has learnt quite a lot from the experience. The teachers gave her some important life coaching advice which I will write about in this article.
I would have to say that even though she is no genius, my step-daughter is a very capable person – when she puts her mind to it. One of her faults however is that she just does enough, she is not naughty at school but does not give one hundred percent to her studies. This may be due to the fact that she has a stuttering problem; we have looked into the various ways of how to stop stuttering and I am now happy to report that she has achieved fluency after we purchased a seventy minute therapy DVD from a speech centre in the UK.
Before we attended the parents evening we had the opportunity to read her school report. In the subject the exam results were more than positive and therefore a decent report was no doubt due. Not asking enough questions, being lazy, rushing homework, not becoming involved with the class discussions – this was most certainly not good enough and were things that made me quite and her mother quite frustrated.
We were also aware that even though the exam results were good, that they could have been even better as she did not do any revision. We told her that even though she was above average that we were not happy with some of the comments made which suggested that she could and should have done even better. She was not happy by this and had quite a big strop thinking that we were just being cruel. I stated that where I work providing DVD authoring services, I have to work my socks off other wise I will be sacked. I also work part time at a firm which offers jobs in foster care.
She is somebody who enjoys playing various forms of sport – especially running, tennis, netball and football. The first teacher she took us to see was her sports teacher who she assumed would be very happy with her. This teacher first asked how we as her parents thought she was getting on, in general at school. We voiced our concerns and the teacher agreed as she had read the whole report and was also not that pleased with it. “Why do you try so much harder when you play, for example netball, than you do when you are in the school classroom?” What a great question I thought to myself. She did not know what to say and seemed quite shocked. The teacher stated that even though sport is important, the other subjects should come first and that if she did not see a marked improvement over the next few months, that she would drop her from the netball and athletics team.
Communication Course To Help Improve Fluency And To Overcome Stuttering
Over the last few years the popularity of specialised communication courses for stuttering has increased in a big way. The courses themselves are run by a person who knows all about the subject of stammering and stuttering due to the fact that he had this type of speech impediment for eighteen years of his life before managing to achieve fluency when he was aged twenty-two.

Steve has also produced a number of self-help products for the people who are not able to attend a stuttering speech course in England. These include a seventy minute DVD, an audio book and an e-book.
Over the last three months a new form of therapy has been added; speech coaching for people who stutter via Skype. This is where people are able to communicate with Steve whilst also watching his responses on their computer screens. This abilty to watch the speech coach describe and demonstrate the techniques is of great benefit in speech pathology.
The feedback that has been received from the people who have attended one of the stuttering/stammering courses or who have purchased one of the self-help products has been very positive.
There is currently a three month waiting period to attend one of the three and five-day courses and for this reason Steve Hill has now commenced running a two day weekend course as well.
To achieve fluency I realised that I needed to start thinking in a much more positive manner; out went the negativity and in came a whole new “I can do it” approach. This really is the only way to go and I only regret that I did not realise this a whole lot earlier.
