LIfe Anew In Paris

I am a man of 49 years of age, was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, living in the UK, and I just returned from my first overseas trip in eight years. It amounted to a couple of days in Paris with my girlfriend. Nothing eventful to speak of; or so you would think However, my last trip overseas was also to Paris in 2002 and ever since my life has been full of changes. This is the same year I got married, was working full time and, above all, an excessive drinker. I had never heard of Asperger syndrome. The following year, my wife and I split and I lost my job due to alcohol abuse. I used alcohol to cope with overwhelming anxiety that I had suffered with since childhood. I had also used tranquilizers as a coping method for day-to-day feelings of fear and stress. Two trips to the emergency room, which resulted in being admitted, with alcohol poisoning and liver failure resulted in something positive; I secured a place in a rehabilitation center and for the first time, I had heard of AS (an autism spectrum disorder). CBT that I endured during rehabilitation has assisted me in staying alcohol/drug free to this day. Autism research has helped me along with beginning to understand myself. A conference with my physician resulted in an official diagnosis. I moved to a small town on the coast to start over with sobriety and self-awareness. Today, I help educate others with Asperger awareness and have even had a book published about my experience. In my book, I expressed how I used alcohol and other controlled substances as methods of coping with anxiety and stress.
I have come in contact with many people who either have AS or know someone that does and who also have substance abuse problems. I explain that when one understands the nature of his/her condition, it is easier to find strategies to adapt. My illness and issues have called for moderation in my life. I work independently now and with the support of family and friends, I avoid situations that could cause stress and anxiety when possible. Seeing things in a new perspective, my current venture to the beautiful, magical Paris was refreshing. My companion, also my intermediary, assisted me with the feelings of being in a strange place. Education and therapy have given me a new life and others can strive for, and achieve, the same.

The 5 Secrets of Self-Motivation
I’m a generally motivated person myself, but there are days when I feel less inclined to pursue my goals. What I’ve noticed is that when that one less-motivated-day begins, it tends to drag on a couple of days, sometimes weeks, affecting my personal growth. Here are 5 easy ways to motivate yourself and get back on your personal growth track!
1. Identify your motivators
Is it that swanky new house? That promotion or pay rise you are dying for? Sit down and make a list of everything you want to achieve and don't be afraid to dream big. If you’re unable to come up with that list, don’t worry. Try this out. Sit down, close your eyes, and fully relax your body. Visualize what would make you really happy. It does not have to be material or physical. It could be a smile on your parents’ face or spending more time with your partner. Imagine it, feel it, and write it down.
2. Keep it in sight
The problem with lists is that we often forget them.. and we're just a little too lazy to read through a list every day. So what you can do with that list is to make it easier for you to visualize your motivators. Want to save up for a vacation in Cancun? Get on Google and search for the most beautiful photo of the place you can find and tack it up on a wall or surface you see everyday. Do the same for everything on that list. Whether it’s in the form of a number, a few quick words, or a photo — put it somewhere you can see, and see often. You will find that it's more stimulating than staring at a list of words everyday.
3. Celebrate your achievements
Remember to celebrate each time you achieve a goal. It doesn’t matter if it was a small one, or a big one. Celebrating your achievements regardless of their size and impact leaves you with feel-good, positive feelings that positively reinforce yourself, making it easier for you to continue motivating yourself each time!
4. Mix with the right people
Your mom was right, she just wasn’t specific enough. Choose your friends wisely. Our time is precious. Be selective and spend it with like-minded individuals. If you’re looking for more motivation, hang out with motivated people. It’s infectious and soon, you will find yourself thinking like them too. What's more preferable is if you select friends who are not only internally motivated but extremely positive and happy individuals. Take them out for lunch, have a chat, party with them, invite them over for drinks — you are who you hang out with.
5. Share the love
Lastly, motivate others. You’ll find that sharing motivation is extremely helpful as it can provide you with the inspiration to stay motivated. That, and verbalizing motivation actually works both ways and you'll find that you're re-motivating yourself.
Flex those self-motivation muscles and put these tips to practice. You’ll find that once you get yourself surrounded with motivating factors, it’s more difficult to be derailed and your journey of personal growth becomes smoother!

3 Quick Ways to Increase Self Motivation
Whatever it is you need to get done a strong sense of self motivation is a vital tool to have. This could be anything from training for a marathon, to going to school, to getting to work on time. Keeping up the same levels of self motivation you started with, such as for stopping smoking ciggarrettes, can become harder and harder as time goes on, and so it is improtant that you know how to increase self motivation. There are some simple things you can do in your day to day life which will increase youroverall motivation to really go all out to reach your goal.
Here are just a few of the ways to do so:
- Stay positive: The power of positive thinking is huge. Keep reminding yourself why you’re doing the task you are and the positive aspects of reaching your goals – always remind yourself of the positives after the hard work and you won’t need much more motivation.
- Set goals: setting small goals, such as going so many weeks without smoking, or keeping up with a fitness regime for a certain amount of time, is a good way of keeping yourself on track, especially if you give yourself a small reward for achieving the goals.
- Report to someone: if you have someone you are accountable to if you fall off track with your goals then this will help give you that extra motivation to stay on target and reach them.
If you find yourself in need of extra help staying on track, subliminal messaging could be the answer you’re looking for. Subliminal messaging isbeing used more to increase confidence, motivation, and acheive success. The self motivation cd, or perhaps others to do with time management, procrastination etc may be of use to you.
These CDs align your subconscious mind with the conscious goals of being more motivated and with it’s help you will reach your goals much easier. And help you to improve your inner levels of motivation and productivity.
Subliminal Messages For Motivation
Motivation is all something we could use a hand with from time to time. Perhaps you have been in a situaution where you are struggling to get motivated to study for your exams, or to exercise, or maybe on occasion you can't really be bothered to go out and socialise with friends?
It is normal that our motivation is higher some days than others. However if you constantly find yourself unmotivated, not bothered about things, or would rather take the easy way out then you might have a problem.
You need to take action sooner rather than later. Before if becomes a bigger problem. The problem in itself is not coming from anyone else. It is not the fault of your parents, or friends. It all exists and stems from your mind. You are responsible for your own motivation!
It might not seem like it, but you are also in control of your motivation at all times. You have the power to influence your mind and to become more motivated at will. This can be done by a number of methods:
NLP – analysing your patterns of thought and seeing where there are negative thoughts that are sabotaging your motivation.
Positive affirmations – repeating statements to yourself to fire yourself up: “I am motivated”, “I can do anything”, “I am energized” etc.
Or there is another way. A simple method which is gaining popularity and that is through the use of subliminal messages. This is a method of self development based upon nlp and affirmations. Actually all that subliminal messages are is positive affirmations, but sent to your mind subliminally. This means you don't hear the affirmation, but it is registered by your unconscious mind.
In this way you can make changes within your mind almo and boost your levels of motivation faster. Simply play the subliminal cds when you feel a drop in motivation. Perhaps when you need to go to the gym, or have an exam to study for. You will notice your drive, ambition, and motivation naturally increase.
