why is self-motivation so important even when you have a job skill that is in high demand?

Having an "in demand" job skill, but having no self motivation to actually do the job you have the skills to perform would mean that you would be doing absolutely nothing.

I would think that if you have a job that is in high demand, that self motivation is not a problem. I don’t see how you could learn a skill for the high demand job with out it.
What’s a job that is in high demand? Doctor? There’s no way you’d get through medical school with out being highly self motivated.
