What is a great inspirational book that is less self motivation mumbo and more realistic and relatable?

Im trying to get the perfect book for someone who is going through some serious problems but is handling it pretty well. So I don’t wont want a pitty book but still need realistic stories to relate to. Also it would be great to have some kind of put it in Gods hands kinda feel to it. Thank you!

People have given me, at different times but under similar circumstances, Ann Hood’s COMFORT and Elizabeth Gilbert’s EAT, PRAY, LOVE. They’re both somewhat memoir-esque, which I think makes them more personal and relatable than strictly "self-motivation" sort of books. COMFORT is ostensibly about grief, and although the author’s grief over a lost child is the source of the book, it has wider applicability. EAT, PRAY, LOVE is about the author’s travels through Italy, India, and Indonesia, and the things she learns from the different cultures and societies that can be applied to her own life—and, as the title suggests, does involve significant elements of spirituality (COMFORT does too, but less so). I’d recommend them both heartily, though COMFORT is significantly shorter, if that’s a factor.

Best wishes to you and your friend.
